OKATECH Copper for the Oxford Department of Physics

| OKALUX | Reference

In the old town of the renowned British university city of Oxford, the height of the buildings around the Carfax Tower is limited to 18 metres.

In order to create sufficient space for the physics department, the architects Hawkins\Brown went down an impressive 16 metres and created the Beecroft Building, named after the co-financier, with a total of five levels below and five above ground.

This makes it all the more important to supply the above-ground part of the building with daylight. With our OKATECH expanded metal inserts in copper, the architects fulfilled functional and aesthetic requirements. Gently diffused light can penetrate the room and creates a pleasant atmosphere. In addition, the inserts function as a direction-selective daylight system and provide effective sun and glare protection. On the façade, they correspond perfectly with the bronze and glass used, which responds to the Gothic Keble College vis-à-vis - what a combination!

The building has been awarded a BREEAM Excellent rating.
