"The Portal" Sports and Leisure Centre, Irvine (UK)

| OKALUX | Reference

Since 2016, Irvine's historic town hall - a town landmark dating back to 1862 - has been restored to its full glory. With the new sports and leisure centre, Sussex-based LA architects have created a remarkable architectural contrast to the neighbouring renovated and reconstructed town house, which was built in 1862. The large glass façades, which use OKALUX+ insulating glass, are particularly striking and provide a pleasant contrast to the Victorian-era listed building.

The capillary plate installed in the cavity ensures that even, shadow-free daylight extends deep into the space. In addition to offering excellent sun and glare protection, heat insulation is improved by the capillary tubes and the transmission values can be specifically adjusted to requirements. Compared to the OKALUX product variant, an optimised Ug value can be achieved for narrow pane structures with OKALUX+, through the use of a functional layer in combination with a gas-filled pane cavity.

In addition to a swimming pool with six 25-metre lanes, the new building also houses a sports hall with six courts, studios and a fitness suite as well as a café and space for cultural events. All areas of the event venue are fully accessible.
