Architectural reunification

| OKALUX | Reference

After the renowned architect Rem Koolhaas turned his back on Berlin in the 1990s - the reunified city and Koolhaas were unable to agree on a common architectural vision for Potsdamer Platz - he returned a decade later to design the Dutch embassy in Klosterstraße.

The building consists of an L-shaped "wall" that is predominantly clad with metal grids. These house technical facilities on the one hand and residential units on the other. The central main building itself is cube-shaped. Inside, the "trajectory" - a dynamic internal route - runs through the building and connects 25 different levels on the ten storeys.

Shimmering metallic, OKATECH was used in the façade. This triple glazing is characterised by an intelligent interplay: single-pane safety glass meets a safety glass with a metal insert and a solar control coating, while the last instance of the pane structure is an insulating glass filled with krypton. The result: solar control and insulation values at the highest level.
