OKATECH for the New York Fire Department

| OKALUX | Reference

To improve response times to medical emergencies, Michielli + Wytzner Architects were tasked with building an Emergency Medical Service Station in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The result was the two-story Greenpoint EMS.

Running parallel to the street façade, the transparent staircase connects the entrance to the second floor and is framed by a glass façade with OKATECH Expanded Mesh. The aluminum inserts act as an attractive design element and provide effective sun and glare protection.

The building has won multiple awards, including the AIANY Architecture Citation Award (2018), SARA NY Design Excellence Award (2017), NYC Chapter AIA Projects Merit Award (2013) and the NYC Public Design Commission Excellence in Design Award (2011).
