Bird-friendly living

| Glas Trösch | Reference

With the FELZ ZWEI apartment building in Zurich, VBAU Architects realized a prime example of sustainable construction. Micro-apartments enable efficient use of the settlement space, the residents' energy needs are generated by solar energy, and there is a charging infrastructure for communal electric cars.

Bird habitats were also considered in the design: SILVERSTAR BIRDprotect was used in the generously glazed stairwell. The bird protection glass was developed in collaboration with the Swiss Ornithological Institute in Sempach to minimize collisions on glass surfaces. This is ensured by a pattern printed on the outside of the glass, which makes it recognizable to birds. Nesting sites integrated into the facade even invite the birds to co-inhabit the house.
