This involves assessing both products and the production and working conditions themselves. The Glas Trösch Rail division recently underwent an evaluation like this and was awarded “silver”.
The rating was conducted by EcoVadis, one of the world's largest providers of sustainability assessments for companies. EcoVadis' methodology is based on criteria relating to the environment, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. The assessment is carried out based on a points system. The “silver” award puts Glas Trösch Rail among the top 25 per cent of all companies rated. On top of this, the award also offers some very practical advantages: as the EcoVadis rating is internationally recognised, it makes it easier for the company to go through the often highly complex process of providing evidence for the sustainability criteria stipulated in tenders.
