Dancing Towers, Hamburg

| BGT | Reference

The Dancing Towers stand at the border between Hamburg’s inner city and the suburb of St. Pauli, marking the entrance to the world-famous Reeperbahn entertainment district. The idea behind the design was to create two structures that perfectly embody the heterogeneous context of the location and its international significance. The 75- and 85-metre-high buildings by Hadi Teherani Architects lean towards one another like a couple dancing.

The geometric design of the two-layer façade was particularly challenging as the individual elements tilt in different ways. The ventilation element features a hurricane-proof baffle pane, which, like all of the insulating glass, was sourced from BGT. The design utilises laminated and single-pane safety glass with an argon-filled pane cavity. Depending on the direction of the windows, the glass was treated with either a heat-insulating or solar protection coating.
